National History Day Group

Murphy IB seniors Lexington Bush & Jayde Robinson presented their exhibit titled, The Literary Legacy of African Americans during the Harlem Renaissance and Potter Boutwell & Harmony Maxie presented their exhibit titled, From Highness to Household: The Rights and Responsibilities of Women in New Kingdom Ancient Egypt (picture 4 in the attachment) on Tuesday, June 10th at Nationals. The ladies answered judge’s questions and shared the culmination of their knowledge on these projects they started back in August of last school year. They certainly represented Murphy High School and Alabama very well!

Additionally, Lexington Bush & Jayde Robinson presented their exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History on Wednesday, June 11th. The ladies chatted with museum goers about their project and shared information about Mobile via Harlem Renaissance author, Zora Neale Hurston and her work, Barracoon. They also got to participate in a special event for student presenters—Objects out of storage—where museum curators selected objects not currently on display in the museum to share with students. The highlight was the original Cookie Monster puppet from Sesame Street!
