Zero-Turn Driving CDE County Contest in the Books! It was a chilly morning, but we were happy to host the Zero-Turn Mower career development event today! Our Semmes FFA members Samuel McClendon and Cullen Lee recently competed in the County Zero-Turn Driving Contest, where agriscience students from Citronelle High School and MGM put their skills to the test navigating a course with precision, control, and attention to detail. From tight turns to careful maneuvering, these students showed that operating equipment safely and accurately takes practice and focus. Competitions like this help students build real-world skills in equipment operation, responsibility, and confidence. We’re proud of all of our students who stepped up to compete and represent our chapter well. Great job to everyone who participated! Big congrats to Samuel, who will represent Mobile County at the South District FFA Spring Eliminations in April! We’d also like to extend a big Thank You to SunSouth for sponsoring the contest and providing a zero turn mower for the event. #FFA #AgEducation #LearningByDoing #FutureOfAgriculture

Our Academy Ambassadors and Career Coach, Mrs. Price, enjoyed attending the monthly Semmes Chamber of Commerce meeting this week. It is always a great opportunity to connect with local business and community leaders and learn more about the amazing things happening in our area. We also enjoyed hearing from our guest speaker, Stephanie Greenwood with Calagaz Marketing. She shared insights on the StoryBrand method and the 5 Soundbites Strategy, which focuses on creating five clear, memorable messages that help businesses communicate who they are and what they offer. Soundbites work like “magic words” that help your audience quickly understand your brand and remember your message. We appreciate the Semmes Chamber for continuing to provide opportunities like this for our students to learn, connect, and grow within our community

You may see emergency vehicles and personnel on campus as they conduct training exercises. This is only a drill, and it will not interfere with scheduled sports or other events taking place on campus. MGM administration appreciates the dedication of our local law enforcement partners and their commitment to being prepared for any emergency situation. MGM is proud to support these important training efforts.

Last week, students from our National English Honor Society (NEHS) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) had the opportunity to celebrate Read Across America by reading to students at local elementary schools as well as to our very own MGM Pre-K students. 📚 Our students loved sharing stories and encouraging a love of reading with the younger students. It was a wonderful way to connect with our community while promoting the importance of literacy and learning. We are proud of these students for representing MGM so well and helping make reading fun for the next generation of Vikings! 🖤🩵📖

Our Pre-K students had a Seuss-tastic day celebrating Read Across America! 📚 They dressed up as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters and were visited by several of our amazing high school students from different organizations who came to read silly and fun stories. The smiles, laughter, and love for reading made it a truly special day for our youngest Vikings! As Dr. Seuss reminds us: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Thank you to our high school students for sharing their time and love of reading with these future readers! 🖤🩵📖

Our senior Government students from Mrs. Blair’s classes had the opportunity to attend the City of Semmes City Council meeting!
Students first observed the City Council Work Session, where proposed ordinances and resolutions were reviewed and discussed in detail. They then stayed for the Regular Meeting, where votes were taken on all agenda items, including those ordinances and resolutions. During the meeting, students were able to see Robert’s Rules of Order in action as the council conducted business in a structured and professional manner. It was such a valuable real-world connection to what they are learning in class! After the meeting adjourned, the City Council members and Mayor Van Hook graciously took time to answer questions from our students. Our seniors made us extremely proud by asking thoughtful, insightful questions about issues impacting our community. We are so thankful to the City of Semmes, the City Council members, and Mayor Van Hook for welcoming our students and giving them the opportunity to see local government at work. Experiences like this truly bring learning to life!

On February 25, our Academy of Engineering students competed in the annual Engineering Competition hosted by the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) at the University of South Alabama.
This competition is designed to give high school students hands-on experience with the civil engineering design process. Throughout the event, teams were challenged in events that tested their creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, design, construction, and overall performance. Students also had the opportunity to hear from Civil Engineering faculty about the university’s engineering program and learn more about future pathways in the field.
Individual event results included:
🥇 1st Place – Overall
🥇 1st Place – Concrete Canoe
🥈 2nd Place – Balsa Wood Tower
🥉 3rd Place – Concrete Bocce Ball & Chalk Art
We are incredibly proud of their hard work, teamwork, and commitment. Opportunities like this not only strengthen engineering skills but also spark interest in future careers in civil engineering. Way to represent!
